FOUNDATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Dr. K. Krishnan is Executive Director of the Foundation for Sustainable Development (FSD) and Convenor of the National Adivasi Solidarity Council. Krishnan is a respected trainer on issues related to tribal rights, labour rights, child rights, welfare legislations, education, livelihoods, environment, and serving as social scientist over 32 years. He is instrumental for release of 14000 bonded labourers, prevented child labour and admitted more than 45,000 tribal children into schools, organised tribal women’s self- help groups in 460 villages, promoted land rights for 15,000 families and founder of the survivors’ associations and voice of the Constitution of India. Moreover, Krishnan has written many books and received national and international awards for his outstanding work to the tribal society.

Sustainable Development is the strategy for establishing social justice and economic equality in the society. FSD organisation is purposefully established to accomplish sustainable development of excluded with inclusive approach. Therefore, the FSD is functioning for socio-economic, educational empowerment of the most vulnerable communities with grassroots interventions by—safeguarding livelihood rights, securing labour rights, promoting women’s rights, protecting child rights, empowering rural poor to overcome violence, discrimination, and differences of their social, economic, educational, cultural, legal, and environmental through establishing assured justice system for better life to enjoy peace and prosperity. The “Sustainable Development” is the destination of the FSD organisation.

The Fundamental Rights in India enshrined in the Part III of the Constitution which guarantees civil liberties such as right to equality, freedom, justice, dignity, social unity, and economic growth for all with human rights perspective. In reality, it is a big challenge for the most marginalised and vulnerable communities such as the Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, Rural Poor, and distress Migrant Communities. For example, the prevalence of the child labour, bonded labour, forced labour and human trafficking for exploitation and discrimination which is violating fundamental rights of the citizens and creating life-long challenges and difficulties. Therefore, the Foundation for Sustainable Development (FSD) is working to overcome poverty and injustice with peoples’ participation. The FSD recognises that eradicating bonded labour system in all its forms and causes, combatting discrimination and stimulating inclusive growth, and envisioning a peaceful society is vital. So, the FSD projects are executed effectively to achieve equality in the society.
